Our Story
Kati and Kevin met like most modern couples do, on a random dating app.
With a pickup line like “you grew up in the middle of the woods, are you Tarzan?,” Kevin was hooked.
They planned to meet for a drink at 5pm at Lolitas Back Bay. When Kevin got their early (as he always does, early or exactly on time), he found out that Lolitas was closed for renovations.
Kati (in a shocking twist) was also early and walking around the block in order to not-be-early (there’s a reason people call it “KP time”).
Kevin called Kati.
Kati looked at her phone and thought, “who in their right mind calls before a date? Thank goodness I planned this early, so I can have a glass of wine and get outta here, he seems like a weirdo.”*
She answered, “hello?”
He told her the dilemma.
They decided to go to the Met Bar. They talked, they laughed, the time passed. Three hours later, and a few appetizers and adult beverages in, Kati was smitten with Kevin.
With a kiss on the cheek, the date ended and both hoped to see the other. The rest is history.
*They still talk on the phone an inordinate amount of the time, unlike any millennial.
WHY AM I SEEING BROCCOLI?
On their first date, conversation naturally went to their favorite cruciferous vegetable.
It probably went something like this:
To break the ice, Kevin asks Kati what her favorite food is.
Without thinking, Kati says broccoli.
Reconsidering whether he wants to stay for the rest of dinner, Kevin asks how come?
Now, broccoli is eaten by our family at least once weekly, often more. Louie even loves it! In fact, Kevin sprinkled the ground with broccoli florets and rose petals before popping the question. You will see hints of broccoli here and there throughout this website, our invitations, and ceremony.
Keep an eye out for more, hopefully very tasteful, broccoli allusions.
LOUIE
Louie (or Louis, or Lucifer, or Lou Lou, or Bubba, or Bubs).
If you know anything about Kevin, you know he loves Louie. You can especially tell his love when he yells at Lou to “get back” or “relax” and sometimes even “gimme kiss.”
If you know anything about Kati, you know that she grew up scared of dogs. Not just an oh-I’m-a-cat-person but actual terror.
On her third date with Kevin, she heard Louie’s bark… and that was almost their last date! But shortly after the ferocious sound, she saw the face of an angel (yes, everyone should be rolling their eyes at this point). … Now, Kati posts more photos of her dog than of herself (wedding and baby aside).
